Materials
This page will give you information about various materials used in furniture manufacturing.
1. LAMINATE. It is a surfaced sheet of wood chipboard. A wood chipboard is made of pressed sawdust, the thickness of its sheet is either 18 or 8 mm. Borders (cuts) of such sheets are usually taped with PVC (a special plastic material). The surface layer pressed on a wood chipboard can have not only color but also texture, giving it some similarity with wooden material. Currently there are laminated sheets with any color and texture in the market, and this lets us meet any demands.
Laminate is the most inexpensive material, so it is widely used in the making of bodies of kitchens and wardrobes, kitchen doors, office furnitures (desks, receptions, closets, shelves etc.).Any shape can be cut out from a laminate sheet, but the sheet can`t be bent. When properly used laminate can serve quite long.
2. MDF. This is a bit more expensive material with higher quality, it can be used for making all the things that are made of laminate, plus bent details (for example, bent kitchen doors). MDF stands for medium density fibreboard, the thickness of its sheet is 18 mm. Borders (cuts) of such sheets can be taped with PVC or painted with car paint as the whole surface of a sheet, thus making the material reflective, that can`t be achieved when using laminate.Another way to make the material reflective is to press a thin glossy layer (called High Gloss) on the surface and borders of MDF sheets.
MDF is considered to be more durable than laminate, however the body of most furnishings is made of laminate.
3. ACRYLUX, or else acrylic plastic. This is a relatively new material fabricated in Italy. The thickness of its sheet is 18 mm, which includes 14 mm of laminate and 4 mm of acrylic (plastic) layer 2 mm in thickness at each side. Acrylic plastic is reflective, and its sheet looks similar to a sheet of MDF painted with car paint. The difference is that acrylux can have not only color but also texture.
4. WOOD. It`s the most expensive and high-quality material, and also the only one that allows to make a kitchen of traditional style. All the materials mentioned above are intended for making furnishing of modern style. But is should be kept in mind, that wood becomes the most durable material only if properly processed, otherwise it can become the most nondurable material. Our company uses only factory-made wooden kitchen doors made in Italy.
